What is Rites of Passage Girls Camp?
Rites of Passage Summer Camp is designed to achieve transformation. The connotation of rites-of-passage is because it symbolizes that transformation - as participants move from one stage of self perception to a another stage, and assume a state of rebirth or new beginning. The week long transformational program culminates with a ceremony and reception to celebrate the new beginning.
Who does this program target?
Rites of Passage Summer Camp provides life skills and other critical needs for girls between 13 and17 years. This program is designed for all girls within the age group, but particularly
targets historically at-risk girls.
What does this program offer?
This program provides a week full of activities and workshops at an intense but nurturing one-week
camp, designed to foster transformation by coaching participants to successfully maintain socially, academically, emotionally, and physically in today's changing environment. Our goal is for students to return to their lives with a new attitude towards school, peers, parents, and society.
The Rites of Passage offers a 'Beacon of Hope' to teens and pre-teens, enhancing their self-worth, self-esteem, self-confidence and desire to succeed. This program is designed to be a beacon of light to direct young girls into womanhood.
How is the program funded?
Kaya Retreats, Inc. is dedicated to keeping costs as low as possible because of today’s unstable economic.
Fees for Girls Rites of Passage Summer camp for Broward County locations, is $25.00 nonrefundable application fee, and $499.00 for 5-day intervention program at an outdoor camp. This amount includes housing, meals, tuition, materials, and other vocational expenses. Travel cost is not included in the fee. Transportation will be available from a designated pick-up and drop-off location to the camp site where necessary. Many summer camp applicants cover expenses with funds from a combination of sources, including local sponsors, family members, and a few are awarded Citizenship Scholarships from our program.
Due to a shaky economy, many families will struggle to pull together the funds for Summer Camp. Kaya Retreats, Inc. administers Citizenship scholarship funds acquired from fundraising activities and donations, and award partial scholarships based on financial need, academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, and motivation to attend Summer Camp.
When accepted for Summer Camp, applicants will participate in Kaya Retreats fundraising. We provide an easy to follow guide covering all steps to fundraising activities, online tools and assistance, as well as one-on-one assistance to help raise the funds to attend Summer Camp. If a student is highly motivated to get to Summer Camp, we will help them to get there.

What to bring to Camp
Due to limited space, each participant will be allowed to bring only the following
to camp:
One duffle bag (or) one carry-on suitcase (no larger than 15”X 21” in proportion)
Sleeping bag
Yoga mat, blanket or large towel for daily Yoga and meditation sessions
Pillow - regular size
Hygiene supplies (toothbrush, toothpaste, bath soap, shampoo, etc)
Sunscreen (SP 30 or above recommended)
Sun glasses (recommended)
Insect repellent (May be needed)
Water bottle
Umbrella
rain poncho
1 Bath Towel
Wash Cloth
1 pair sneakers
extra socks for six days
1 pair flip-flops (slippers
1 pair walking boots (optional)
flashlight
Clothing
Pack lightly for five days.
